Plot




The film revolves around the love story of Vikram (Rajiv Kapoor) and Seema (Divya Rana), who belong to different religions and social backgrounds. Vikram is a rich Hindu boy who falls in love with Seema, a poor Muslim girl, while studying in college. They face opposition from their families, especially Seema's father Nawab Feroz Khan (Shammi Kapoor), who is a strict and orthodox Muslim. Vikram tries to win over Seema's parents by helping them financially and socially, but his efforts are in vain.


One day, Vikram and Seema decide to elope and get married secretly. However, they are caught by Nawab Feroz Khan and his men, who beat up Vikram and set fire to his car. Vikram is arrested for arson and attempted murder, while Seema is locked up in her house. Vikram's father Ram Prakash (Tanuja) hires a lawyer to defend his son, but he soon realizes that the only way to save him from a long prison sentence is to certify him as mentally unstable. He bribes a doctor to give a false report that Vikram suffers from schizophrenia and is unfit to stand trial.


Vikram is sent to a mental asylum, where he is subjected to torture and humiliation by the staff. He tries to escape several times, but fails. Meanwhile, Seema is forced to marry another man by her father, who threatens to kill her if she refuses. She reluctantly agrees, but on the day of her wedding, she runs away from the venue and reaches the asylum where Vikram is kept. She manages to meet him and tells him that she still loves him and wants to be with him. They plan to escape together, but are caught by the asylum authorities.


Vikram and Seema are separated again, and Vikram is given electric shocks as a punishment. He loses his memory and forgets everything about his past, including Seema. Seema is taken back to her father's house, where she is locked up again. She becomes depressed and suicidal, and tries to kill herself by taking poison. However, she is saved by her mother (Kiran Vairale), who sympathizes with her plight.


Meanwhile, Ram Prakash regrets his decision of declaring his son insane and decides to fight for his justice. He hires another lawyer (Rakesh Bedi) who challenges the previous verdict and proves that Vikram was framed by Nawab Feroz Khan and his men. He also exposes the doctor who gave the false report of Vikram's mental condition. The court acquits Vikram of all charges and orders his release from the asylum.


Vikram returns home, but he does not remember anything or anyone. He behaves like a child and does not recognize his parents or friends. Ram Prakash tries to jog his memory by showing him pictures and videos of his past life, but it does not work. He then decides to take him to the college where he met Seema for the first time.


At the college, Vikram sees Seema, who has also come there with her mother. He feels a strange attraction towards her, but does not know who she is. Seema recognizes him and calls out his name. She runs towards him and hugs him, hoping that he will remember her. However, Vikram pushes her away and runs from there.


Seema follows him and tries to remind him of their love story. She tells him how they met, how they fell in love, how they faced difficulties, how they eloped, how they were separated, how he was tortured in the asylum, how she was forced to marry another man, how she escaped from her wedding, how she met him in the asylum again, how they planned to escape together again, how they were caught again, how he lost his memory after electric shocks, how she tried to kill herself after losing him.


As Seema narrates their story, Vikram starts to recall some flashes of his past. He begins to remember her face, her voice, her name, and their moments together. He realizes that she is his beloved Seema, and that he loves her too. He embraces her and apologizes for forgetting her. He tells her that he wants to marry her and live with her forever.


Seema is overjoyed and kisses him. They hug each other and declare their love for each other. Ram Prakash and Seema's mother witness their reunion and bless them. Nawab Feroz Khan also arrives at the scene and sees his daughter happy with Vikram. He realizes his mistake and apologizes to them. He accepts their relationship and gives them his consent to get married.


Vikram and Seema get married with the blessings of their families and friends. They live happily ever after.

Ek Jaan Hain Hum is a typical Bollywood masala film of the 1980s, with romance, drama, action, comedy, songs and dances. The film has a simple and predictable plot, with clichéd characters and situations. The film relies on melodrama and sentimentality to appeal to the audience.


The film's main attraction is the debut performance of Rajiv Kapoor, who is the youngest son of the legendary actor Raj Kapoor.
